At 7:00 pm local time on October 16th, the Chinese Consulate General in Basra, Iraq, held an opening ceremony in Basra. Mr. Zhao Yafei, the Vice President of ZPEC Group and General Manager of ZPEC Iraq Branch, and Mr. Zhang Chi, Executive Deputy General Manager of ZPEC Iraq Branch, were invited to attend and they presented congratulatory flower baskets.
Nearly 300 people, including representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, local provincial government officials, Chinese-funded institutions, and friendly people from all walks of life, attended the event. At the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, Cui Wei, said that Iraq was an important partner in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road". This year marks the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinping's "Belt and Road" initiative and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Iraq. The opening of the embassy at this time has special significance. The Consulate General will actively promote cooperation between the two countries and provide timely and effective consular services to Chinese citizens and businesses.
After the ceremony, representatives of various enterprises and many friends expressed their congratulations and took photos. Zhao Yafei said that he was deeply impressed by the high-quality development of enterprises and ideological and cultural construction mentioned by Ambassador Cui Wei. At the same time, he was also very grateful to the Chinese Embassy in Iraq for its continued help and support to ZPEC’s Iraq Branch.
