At 15:00 on February 8, 2023, Western Kazakhstan time, Well 408 in the Tenge Oilfield was successfully completed. This well is the first well drilled by ZPEC Rig 38 in the Tenge Oilfield and was successfully completed 37 days ahead of the design period, setting a record for the fastest drilling in the history of the Tenge Oilfield.
Well 408 is a production well with a designed well depth of 2,450 meters and an actual drilling depth of 2,452 meters; ZPEC Rig 38 had to overcome difficulties such as limited materials and accessories, insufficient technical personnel, continuous low temperature on the well site, sandstorms, and raging black winds. Taking adequate preventive measures against risks and continuously optimizing the drilling tool assembly, the well was finally completed 37 days ahead of schedule, which was highly appreciated by Party A.
During the drilling operation of this well, the Drilling and Drilling Service Teams successfully completed the drilling task of the third open deficit formation. During this period, the work of anti-shrinkage in the upper mudstone section was successfully completed and the air-depleted layer was successfully drilled to complete the task of anti-leakage. This, in turn, greatly saved drilling time and controlled the costs.
Since the new technology of drilling fluid is the first practical application in Kazakhstan, ZPEC Headquarters and the Kazakhstan Project have paid close attention to it. Under the technical support and guidance of ZPEC Headquarters, ZPEC Drilling Company, Oil Service Company, and other technical experts, Well 408’s drilling penetrated multiple leakage zones. The super-long second section was easy to shrink in diameter, while the third section was extremely difficult in the air-deficient zone due to the easy occurrence of malignant leakage zones.
