November 22,Rig 23 receivedane-mail from Luke Oil management praising two of the drillers,Jianping Ren and Min Wang,because of their outstanding performance in the WQ2-209well construction process in spite of the unusual difficulties faced by the team.

When the downhole conditions worsened and became very complicated, their rich experience, superb technology, and careful operation enabled the team to repeatedly overcome difficulties demonstrating Team 23’s (the foremost drilling crew of West Khulna)high strength and excellent spirit.

The original email stated:

Dear Comrades,

As you all aware, the well we are currently “constructing”, WQ2-209, has a quite complicated, non-routine design.  It is a highly inclined, highly deviated, “long” well.We may encounter different type of problems/risks including hole cleaning issues,
 well control, formation instability in Tanuma and other zones, different types of stuck
 pipe, etc. In the last 2 days we had to trip out through Tanuma formation twice with
 back-reaming following Tanuma guidelines. The first trip took about
12 hrs and the second one – about 8 hrs. It was very monotonous but hard job
demanding from the driller to be fully concentrated on the operations. He needs to
 control different parameters at once and choose/adjust proper tripping speed. It is
extremely difficult to keep attention and concentration, and at the same time be readyto react quickly in case of pack-off, which develops
very fast, pressure grows in seconds. If the proper action is not taken, if it’s late, then it may lead to catastrophic consequences – stuck pipe in Tanuma, lost BHA, lost time and money. In both trips we got our string packed off, but adequate back reaming
 speed and proper actions taken by our drillers saved the situation. We successfully
 released and then completed both trips. This is an example of excellent performance of our team, but especially night and day shift drillers. I would like to recognize their efforts and express my own thanks to these guys, Ren Jianping and Wang Min. I
wish us to keep up such high level of competence further on and succeed in our
 operations.
