On February 24^th, Guangming Daily published a report sent back from Cairo entitled, "The Construction of the ‘Belt and Road’: Creating a New Chapter of Mutual Benefit and Win-win Results", which reported on the deeds of ZPEC Egypt Company in practicing the national "Belt and Road" strategy, promoting local people's livelihood projects through water well projects, and making positive contributions to the development of agriculture in Egypt. Chinese enterprises drill wells for irrigation, turning deserts into fertile fields. In 2015, Egypt proposed the "Million Feddan" (1 feddan = ~4,200 square meters) Desert Reclamation Project to develop groundwater wells for agricultural irrigation in desert areas and to increase the arable area. The project plans to drill more than 10,000 wells, which is a major matter related to people's livelihood. In response to the national "Belt and Road" initiative, the Chinese enterprise, Zhongman Petroleum and Natural Gas Group, rapidly upgraded 11 sets of professional well equipment and established Zhongman Egypt Company in the first half of 2016. Li Wei, General Manager of the Company, oversaw Zhongman’s Technology and Operation Team’s abilities to overcome difficulties, such as well leakage and complex formation.  They were able to innovatively apply air foam drilling technology to achieve a single well water output of more than 1,000 cubic meters per hour. Up to now, more than 300 wells have been drilled.

Today, deep in the desert of Egypt's western Minya Province, Chinese enterprises have transformed the barrenness of yellow sand and gravel into oases, bringing new hope for life and development to the local people.
