At 22:00 on September 9, 2021, Saudi local time, ZPEC Saudi Aramco Project Rig 43 passed the on-site inspection and acceptance by Party A, Saudi Aramco, and successfully started drilling under a high temperature of more than 40 degrees. With the roar of the rig, the team opened up the prelude for the Saudi market, marking ZPEC’s official entrance on the most high-end "Stage" of international drilling.
Representatives of Party A, Project Department leaders, Rig 43 team members, and personnel from related units participated in the spudding ceremony. The local partners expressed their hope that, in the future, they would share the glory and shame and make progress and development together with ZPEC.
As one of ZPEC Group’s key projects this year, it has received great attention and support from all over the Group. Under the background of tight time, heavy tasks, and high standards, ZPEC had given full play to its integrated advantages. In terms of staffing, excellent soldiers with rich experience in international operations had been transferred to form the Saudi Project Department. In terms of equipment, the two drilling rigs are all new configurations. This model has a compact structure, advanced performance, and a high degree of automation. All of the components are equipped with tires and are highly mobile, meeting the fast and efficient moving needs of on-site construction.
Since 2020, despite the turmoil of international oil companies cutting production due to the epidemic, ZPEC has gone against the current, actively exploring the market and winning bids for Saudi Aramco Drilling and other engineering projects in one fell swoop. On March 28, 2021, ZPEC and Saudi Arabian Oil Company ("Saudi Aramco") signed a drilling contract with a total value of $120M USD (~787M RMB), making it the first and only Chinese private drilling company to break into the Saudi market. The other drilling team of the ZPEC Saudi Project, ZPEC Rig 44, is expected to start drilling in two weeks.
