2021-08-04

At 1:30 pm, Iraq local time, on July 31, 2021ZPEC Rig 35 of ZPEC (Iraq) BP Project passed the inspection by Party A and successfully spudded under the high temperature of 50 degrees.  This is the second team of ZPEC to successfully spud for the BP Project after ZPEC Rig 26 started drilling on July 2, 2021. So far, both of the two teams have fully started their journey in Rumaila Oil Field.

On June 20th, ZPEC (Iraq) BP Project received an official notice from Party A to approve the mobilization of Rig 35. With the full support of ZPEC’s Shanghai  Headquarters and the ZPEC Iraq Branch, the drilling team overcame many difficulties, such as the strict approval process of the free trade zone, the transport of large equipment for the 100-kilometer distance, and strong winds and sandstorms. The moving operation was finished on June 28th. On July 2nd, the mast was successfully lifted up and the rig commissioning began. It only took 41 days from the mobilization start to spud, setting a new record in the Rumaila Oil Field.

On December 10, 2020, ZPEC and British Petroleum Company (BP) signed a drilling and completion contract for the Rumaila Oil Field in Iraq. The whole contract is worth approximately $85.54 million USD. This is the second drilling and completion service contract signed between ZPEC and BP in Iraq. The project is located in the Rumaila Oil Field, which is the largest oilfield of Iraq and also ranks 6th in the world. The construction period is about 18 months. ZPEC Rig 26 and Rig 35 are responsible for the construction.
