The Dabei 1701X Well is a high-inclination,directional, evaluation well. The high-differential directional well is notonly because of its inclination, but also due to drilling through three large-graingravel rock layers in the first three sections. In the operation of wells inthe Tarim Oilfield, the large sections of gravel are the most difficult todrill. During this period, high mechanical rotation speed is required, whichhas high requirements for the selection of drill bits and the formulation ofdrilling parameters.

The planned footage in the 3 1/2"section of this well was 2,800 meters, of which the conglomerate layer wasabout 2,200 meters. The huge difficulties have further inspired the fightingspirit of the ZPEC drillers. Everyone, starting from the drill bit, parameters,mud, etc., boldly focused on continued optimization, while achieving a numberof technical breakthroughs on the premise of ensuring safe construction. In theselection of drill bits, the technicians studied the data of dozens of adjacentwells, compared the drill bits for drilling in the gravel layer, and organizedthem in place with the strong support of the company and the projectdepartment. During the process, the drill bit was constantly adjusted accordingto the actual drilling situation. In pure conglomerate, the warrior cone bit wassuitable for pure conglomerate. The effect is better when the conglomerate andsandstone are interbedded. The compound drill bits achieved good results.Optimizing drilling parameters is a necessary guarantee to ensure smoothconstruction. In the gravel layer drilling, slack drilling is seriously unableto stabilize the drilling parameters. Under the guidance of the technical team,the driller of Rig 42 steadily probed, adjusting within the scope, and usingone of the most suitable parameters to drill quickly under safe conditions.  During the construction, a good mud systemalso played an active role. By optimizing the mud performance, largedisplacements were drilled into medium and large grain gravel.  It was circulated out of the wellbore in timeto ensure downhole safety.
