At 3:30pm on May 18th, with the roar of therig, the MJ88 Well, drilled by Rig 29 of the Schlumberger Project of the ZPECIraq Branch, was spud in at the G22-1 wellsite in the Majnoon Oilfield.  In face of various adverse circumstances,such as the replacement of the well site, the curfew, and the COVID-19precautions, the team actively responded to andeliminated all difficulties and successfully passed the acceptance of the client.

The project was officially started in thesecond half of 2019. The main equipment and barracks were moved from the bondedarea and then to the Rumaila Base on January 17, 2020.  Due to the sinking of the first wellsite base,the client decided to replace the wellsite after inspection. The second mobilizationbegan on February 1, 2020. When the equipment was installed, COVID-19 broke outin Iraq soon thereafter. The local government and the oil zone then implementedcurfews and traffic control for nearly two months, making a serious impact onoperations and drilling.

In order to prevent a COVID-19 breakout,the team arranged for local employees to go home for leave and only retainedChinese employees to continue the modifications and cooperate with the inspectionof the client.  After undergoing manyrounds of strict inspections by the three clients, BOC, Anton, and Schlumberger,the various drilling conditions standards were accepted by all parties and the wellwas ready to spud in.

Throughthe current sluggish international oil market, its slumping prices, and theshrinking drilling market, everyone cherished the hard-won job opportunities.The Rig 29 Team expressed confidence during the COVID-19 prevention period, whileat the same time improving excellent service.
