On June 4th, after a night of preparation and construction, the cementing team successfully and efficiently completed the casing cementing of the 9 5/8" oil reservoir in the GA-K97P Well of the Malaysian Oil Project. The cementing quality achieved the best results since 2014 when ZPEC and Oman last contracted this type of large-slope directional well.
This well is a directional well with a large inclination, starting its directional inclination from 720 meters, then stabilizing the inclination after increasing the inclination to 1,158 meters. The drilling was completed at 3,110 meters with a maximum deviation of 48 degrees. The following cementing difficulties in this type of high-slant directional well were incurred: casing was moderately poor, easily sticking to the wall, high edge ring capacity, low bottom edge ring capacity, poor displacement efficiency, channeling phenomenon in slurry replacement process, and high requirement for cement slurry performance. To solve these difficulties, a careful analysis and research discussion was held by the Cementing Team. According to the actual circumstances, the reasonable choice of centralizer type, position, quantity, reasonable adjustment of optimization, the slurry system and leading system of formula required repeated adjustments and optimization in order to achieve the best formula, to make the reasonable cementing operation parameters, and so on.
During the construction, the Cementing Department Leader was in charge and, under the strong support of the Project Leader, Drilling Director and Mud Department, the cementing of the 9 5/8" oil reservoir casing of the well was successfully and efficiently completed. The cementing quality achieved the best performance in the history of the same type of well construction, which demonstrated the excellent technical quality of the Cementing Team of ZPEC.
